🔧 Technical & Application Advice (Critical for Pros)

Expert guidance on getting the most out of your tools.

Q: What is the best diamond blade for cutting heavily reinforced concrete with rebar?

A: Cutting rebar requires a blade with a Soft Bond matrix. When you hit steel, hard bonds will "glaze over" and stop cutting. We recommend our Vortex WTRC "Red Combo" Series. It features a specialized soft bond and laser-welded segments designed to cut through steel reinforcement without overheating or losing segment teeth.

  • Pro Tip: When cutting heavy rebar, use the "Step Cutting" method—make shallow passes rather than plunging the blade deep.

Q: What is the difference between Wet and Dry diamond blades? Can I use a wet blade dry?

A:

  • Dry Blades: Can be used either dry or wet. They have laser-welded segments to withstand high heat.

  • Wet Blades: Must ALWAYS be used with water. The water acts as a coolant.

  • The Rule: You can use a Dry blade with water (it extends blade life), but you must NEVER use a Wet blade dry. Doing so can cause the segments to overheat and fly off, posing a serious safety risk.

Q: How do I choose the right bond? (Green Concrete vs. Cured Concrete)

A: Follow the "Opposite Rule":

  • For Hard Materials (Cured Concrete, Granite): Use a Soft Bond blade. This allows the matrix to wear away and expose new diamonds.

  • For Soft/Abrasive Materials (Green Concrete, Asphalt): Use a Hard Bond blade. This prevents the matrix from wearing away too fast.

  • Wrong Choice: Using a soft bond on asphalt will cause the blade to wear out in minutes. Using a hard bond on cured concrete will cause the blade to stop cutting (glaze).

Q: Why is my diamond blade cutting slow or "glazing over"?

A: "Glazing" happens when the metal bond doesn't wear away, and the diamonds get polished smooth. This usually happens when cutting material that is too hard for the blade's bond.

  • The Fix: Don't throw the blade away! Run the blade through an abrasive material like a cinder block, asphalt, or a dressing stone for a few cuts. This will strip the metal bond and re-expose fresh, sharp diamonds.

Q: Is a laser-welded blade better than a sintered blade?

A: For professional construction use, Yes. Laser welding melts the segment and the steel core together, creating a bond that is much stronger than heat-sintering. If you are dry cutting or cutting reinforced concrete, laser welding is essential for safety to prevent segment loss.

📏 Sizing & Compatibility

Ensuring the right fit for your equipment.

Q: What blade size do I need for a Stihl TS 420 or Husqvarna K770?

A: The standard size for these handheld cut-off saws is 14-inch (350mm).

  • Arbor Fit: Most of our 14" blades come with a 1-inch arbor and include a 20mm bushing adapter. This makes them universally compatible with both Stihl (20mm) and Husqvarna/Makita (1-inch) saws.

Q: Do you have a blade that cuts both Asphalt and Concrete?

A: Yes. This is a common challenge for road saws. We recommend our Combo Series (General Purpose). However, if you are cutting Asphalt Over Concrete, we specifically recommend our Red Combo (WTRC) blade, which balances the wear rate to handle the abrasive asphalt top while still cutting the concrete base.

📦 Ordering, Shipping & Warranty

Buy directly from the manufacturer with confidence.

Q: How does Vortex Diamond compare to big brands like Husqvarna or Norton?

A: Vortex Diamond is a manufacturer, not just a distributor. By selling directly to you, we eliminate the middleman markup. Our blades use similar (often higher) concentrations of industrial-grade diamonds compared to the "big names," but typically cost 30-50% less. You are paying for the tool, not the marketing.

Q: Where do you ship from? How fast is delivery?

A: We are based in Wheeling, Illinois. Our central U.S. location allows us to reach most East Coast and Midwest locations within 1-3 business days, and the West Coast within 3-4 business days via ground shipping.

Q: Do you offer bulk pricing for contractors or potential distributors?

A: Yes! We specialize in B2B supply.

  • Bulk Packs: Check our "Buy Bulk" menu for 5-packs and 10-packs with automatic discounts.

  • Wholesale: For pallet-sized orders or resale inquiries, please contact us directly for our dealer price list.

Q: What is your return policy?

A: We stand behind our quality. If a product is defective, we offer a full replacement or refund. Unused products in original packaging can be returned within 30 days. Please visit our [Returns Policy Page] for full details.
